Failure to Appear

Practice Areas > Criminal Offenses

A failure to appear, also known as a FTA, will occur as a result of a missed court date.

A Failure to Appear will be given 20 days after the court date unless the case has been re-calendared or disposed before that time.

For motor vehicle violations, after a Failure to Appear has been given, the DMV will be notified and then will notify the defendant their driver’s license will be suspended in a certain amount of time if the matter is not disposed of by that time.

For more serious violations, an order for arrest may be issued. Anyone who has a Failure to Appear should contact an attorney to evaluate his or her options.
